I am having the same problem but with disk1: I have used the same external compact flash in another ASA but a newer IOS version 8.4 and it works fine. I have tried the same compact flash in a cisco 2851 and it works there as well. Could it be a bug in the Cisco IOS version 8.2 for ASA 5520? Or does anyone have a work around?
